ABOUT US

TERRA.LOCI. began in 2021 with the three of us — Bertus Fourie, Johann Fourie and Pieter du Toit — friends who share a long history in South African wine and a deep respect for the places that shape it. What started as a conversation became a commitment: to craft small‑batch, site‑driven wines that speak honestly of where they come from.

Each of us brings a different thread to the story.

Bertus is a winemaker with a curious, inventive streak, as comfortable in the cellar as he is cooking over open fire. A self‑taught fire cook with deep roots in South Africa’s braai culture — including a run to the Ultimate Braai Master final — he’s built a quiet, instinctive understanding of flavour over many years. His work in the cellar includes the first coffee‑style Pinotage, a wine that created a new category. That mix of technical grounding, a cook’s intuition, and a lifelong connection to fire gives him an easy, unforced feel for flavour.

Johann is a steady, detail‑driven winemaker whose work stretches across the Cape and into England, where he also makes traditional‑method sparkling wines. He’s known for a clear, disciplined approach to craft, shaped by years of experience and recognition along the way, including the 2015 Diners Club Winemaker of the Year. Despite the accolades, his style remains calm and understated, guided by balance, precision, and a quiet respect for site.

Pieter is a fifth‑generation Stellenbosch winemaker who has spent the past twenty years working with iconic wineries around the world, and is now based in Europe. He carries an instinctive feel for South African terroir and a steady, detail‑driven approach to craft.

We work with a close circle of exceptional growers across the Cape — partners, friends and family who farm with intention, in soils and microclimates that reveal quiet nuance. Each vineyard has its own rhythm, its own story, and each wine captures a point along that journey.
